We expanded our family this weekend, sort of.
No, I did not adopt a Haitian refugee, as my neighbor suggested (although don’t think I didn’t give it a little thought.)
We adopted a big sister for Harley.
Meet Koda:
All 100 lbs-Bull-Mastiff-slobbery-sleepy-sit-in-your-lap-like-I’m-a-yorkie of her.
She is fabulous, we love her.
Why, might you be wondering, did we decide to add a little more chaos into our already kinda hectic (can you hear the sarcasm dripping) household?
Well, I think for a couple of reasons.
First of all, I think we knew that once Katy had passed away, we would end up with another dog. I wanted Harley to have a playmate and we kept her fairly seperated from Katy since she was so old, just so Katy would not get hurt.
Second, we decided that we wanted a BIGGER dog so that instead of bringing a puppy into the house and allowing Harley to set the craziness standards, so we decided to look for an older, more mature dog to teach Harley some home training (thank you to my co-workers who recommened this to me, I owe you!)
Enter Koda.
She is a rescue dog, two years old, and has spent the better portion of her life chained in a back yard, until she was rescued and fostered by a wonderful family.
Yes, okay, she’s big, we get it.
Trust me, we get it.
When a 100 lb dog decided it’s getting in your lap, you kinda let it.
It’s sorta like getting a pony. Only one that drools excessively. And no saddle, darn it.
But she’s just about the sweetest thing you’ve ever met.
When we brought her home, of course Ms. Harley did her thing.
They sniffed and pushed and pulled and sniffed some more.
And eventually, by this afternoon, they wore each other out, and ended up like this:
We love her already, our animal family is complete.
Oh, and her name?
Well, her original name was Princess Leah.
As much as my husband and kids love Star Wars, they could not go with that name.
We went round and round with names.
Zoey.
Chilli (as in chillin’, my favorite, I got voted down.)
DJ because she kept accidentally hitting the radio in the car and changing the station.
Kona (Robert’s favorite, named after, what else, Hawaii.)
and then Koda, the kids favorite.
At first, I wasn’t too cool with that name.
Then, I found out it’s Indian for friend.
And it was instantly her name.
Koda.
Friend.
Welcome.

She’s FAB!!
My friend has got a Bully, he’s 2yrs 2months and called Moses. We’ve seen him grow from a puppy with the biggest feet you’ve ever seen (no wonder he kept tripping over them)to a sweet tempered, but very slobbery BIG dog. He is so strong! He has pulled my friend and her husband over more than once when he got excited out walking.

I love her!!! I LOVE large dogs… we mostly rescue very large breeds b/c they are so hard to place into homes. You guys rock for giving her an awesome forever home!
She is sooo gorgeous. And, your friends are right! Getting a grown dog with good manners is one of the easiest ways to teach a puppy.
I always wanted a Bull-Mastiff. THEY HAD ONE AT wAL-MART PARKING LOT FOR SALE FOR LIKE 1200.00. I called and asked Rodeny if I could have her and he said… no. So I played with the dog for about 30 min. and went on to do my shopping. They are so sweet. I cant wait to play with her!!!!
She is AMAZING. We LOVE her so much, I can’t wait for you to meet her. If you ever want one and can convice Rodney, look for a rescue. No need to spend that money, there are plenty of good ones looking for a home. And tell Rodney $1200 is nothing to keep his sweetheart happy! I still remember Sheba!
And okay now I’m thinking when you called Rodney from Walmart and asked to spend $1200 on a puppy, he must have thought you were in a bar drunk, not at Walmart.
