All Dogs Go To Heaven

So, I learned today that there is only one thing worse than losing a dog.

Only one thing worse than saying goodbye to a dog you’ve had for fifteen years.

Only one worse than losing the first really dog who ever owned you.

Only one thing worse than finally knowing that there is only one thing left to do.

The only thing worse than than letting go of Katy today, because she is finally gone,

was knowing throughout the day while I was at work that she probably wouldn’t make it through the night,

trying to hurry home a little early to check on her,

praying the kids wouldn’t get there before me,

trading text messages withmy 16 year old son, telling him to let me get home first to check on her, and

then

pulling

into the driveway

at the same moment as Tyler

watching him half jump from Kloey’s still moving car

and race up the the of sidewalk ahead of me,

knowing

I would stop him,

as I yelled out the window for him to

wait and let me go first

and watching him

ignore me

and keep running in the house

ignore the home alarm

and run straight toTop[1]

Katy and throw his body over her

and just sob.

She was still there.

But barely hanging on.

Waiting, I think.

For Robert to come home.

For Tyler to let her go.

That boy she had so carefully guarded since before he could speak.

Well done, my friend.

You gave so much more to us

Than we could have ever given back to you.

i HATE to think about this… bingo will be 16 in another month, and is blind and deaf. trying to convince someone to let go before we’re in a more serious situation is difficult, but it makes me sad to see him in such a state. we are going to have to make a tough decision very soon too, and reading your story hit a little close to home. sorry for your loss!!

Sorry about your Katy! We lost our kitty of 15 years last week. It’s so hard to see a member of the family go, isn’t it? SITS sent me by, and I’m glad they did!

I know how you feel, I’ve been through it too. They bring so much joy, and they are part of the family. Losing them, and knowing that they are going is so painful. I am so sorry that she’s gone. I hope you remember all those wonderful times you’ve had together. The memories are golden.
