Lost & Found
I wanted to post a quick update and say thank you to all the people who send me e-mails, Tweets, a notes from my blog about Harley.
I’m happy to say I found her!
I was really hoping to wake up yesterday morning and see her on the front porch.
No such luck though.
I walked around back, the gate was still open as I’d left it the night before.
I whistled for her, hoping she would pop out.
Instead, poor Katy, my 15 year Aussie stuck her head around the corner, like “I’m still here?”
The kids got ready for school and I started to print posters.
I printed about 20 posters for all the stop signs around our neighborhood (we live near a major road) and headed up that way, sure she would not have gone that far. She HATES that road.
I went to every stop sign, and just aimlessly taped up signs.
I had 1 sign left, and decided to head across the major road, to the other side of our subdivision.
One of the kid’s friends lives over there, and I had a thought maybe she smelled his scent and headed that way.
I stopped along the way to talk to an elderly lady who was picking up her paper and asked to see my sign.
I went to the stop sign with my last poster, and just as I was hanging it up, I glanced to the right.Right there on the light pole, 2 feet from my head, was my answer, I’m sure it was glowing:
“FOUND. GERMAN SHEPHERD PUPPY. PINK COLLAR.”
Can I tell you, I quite nearly passed out.
You would have thought that I’d found a winning lotto ticket.
Fortuntantely, I had my phone with me.
I dialed the number as quick as my fingers would allow, and a man answered.
I told him I was calling about my dog, and he started to ask me to describe her.
Before he could finish a sentence, I pretty much blurted out the shape, size and color of both of her collars, her name, and every mark on her body.
He laughed and said, “yep, that’s her.”
I asked him to sit right there, and I ran, I mean RAANNNNNNN home and got my car, my checkbook, and the leash.
Four minutes later I was in his yard, where he stood with Harley and his 100 lb Weimeraner.
So my dog was silly enough to run away, smart enough to get picked up by a guy who I think is the local rep for PETA.
I mean this guy was a totally dog nut.
He was so, so nice. He said, “Well, I hope it’s okay that she slept on the sofa in our room.”
Okay?
Did ya leave a mint on the pillow too, lol?
Then he said, “And, she was kind of itchy, so we gave her an ORGANIC OATMEAL BATH.”
Not just a bath, an ORGANIC OATMEAL BATH.
With Oatmeal Bath they bought in Key West, Florida.
Smart dog, I’ve got there. She ran straight to the neighborhood doggie day spa.
I tried to pay him, he refused to take the money.
We talked about dogs for a few minutes, I stood there the whole time, holding her like a baby in my arms.
I am so happy to have her back.
I went straight to the pet store for new dog tags.
And an unlimited supply of bully sticks.
“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive.” – Gilda Radner
(P.S. She is microchipped, in fact my new best friends said he was was headed to the vet that morning to get her scanned. But, her tags had come off. As soon as I found her, I went and got a tag that is riveted to her collar, and I’m ordering a custom collar with her name and our number sewn into it so Ms. Thang cannot break the clasp again.)
