The Body Scoop for Girls GIVEAWAY!

I was recently given a copy of The Body Scoop for Girls, by Dr. Jennifer Ashton. Now, I know some of you might be thinking, ‘now why would you read that when you have boys?’ Well, there are a couple of reasons. First of all, I can always dream of not always being outnumbered, right? Second, those three boys of mine are spending a lot of time looking at girls so a little refresher on the issues that female teens face isn’t a bad idea. Third of all, this is a VERY informative book, even if you are a big girl! The Body Scoop For Girls

You might be familiar with Dr. Jennifer Ashton from her appearances as the CBS News Medical Correspondent or as a regular guest expert on The Dr. Oz Show.  Her first book, The Body Scoop for Girls, is now out and is really a MUST-READ for any mom with a tween/teenage daugther, or even if you are like me and only have boys.

The first thing I noticed is that this is a very well printed book. There was clearly some thought put into the printing and publishing, and it would make a nice gift for a young lady.

The next thing I noticed was that I found myself totally engrossed in the information. Yes, it’s been a decade or two since I was a teenager. What I found fascinating is how much some of the information hasn’t change at all since my teen years, and how much of it is so different and geared towards today’s information. For example, there is a lot of very easy to understand information on the teenage body, the changes that occur, what to expect and what might be a problem. But, there’s also excellent information on body piercings, herpes, and vaccinations, none of which were exactly dinner time conversations when I was a teen, but are common topics among the youth of today.

I think what I liked the most about this book, other than the fact that the information is so well written and presented, is that it’s written in a voice that teens today will certainly relate to. There are sub-topics called ‘Playlists,’ a chapter on ‘Extreme Body Makeover,’ and a chapter on weight called ‘No Weight.’

As a mother of teenagers, I can say firsthand that the first way to get through to teenagers is to speak their language, and this book does just that. The Body Scoop presents the important information, using teenage talk, but always sticking to the facts that moms want their daughters to know about.

That sounds like a great book…I wish I would have had something like that when I was a teenager! On that note, I am so dreading my daughter hitting her teenage years (I have quite a few years to prepare). I have a coupe of friends with pre-teen daughters that would love to know about this book.

Hmmmm…my fave book as a teenager…The Flower sin the Attic series…I still love them.
