As I was blindly zipping through Atlanta last week, I had the pleasure of being introduced to a new holiday treat. Now, before I share this recipe, there are a few things you should know. Of course, in order for me to attempt to cook anything, it must meet the SMTM requirements and be quick, easy and delicioso. This recipe pretty much takes the cake, or the cookie, and is hands down probably the easiest but most decadent thing I’ve tried in a long time.
Get this…
These cookies have THREE, count them, THREE ingredients. It doesn’t get much easier than that. Three things? That’s like PB&J?
You don’t even have to turn the oven on.
No, I swear I am not drinking, it’s the honest to goodness mom truth. No oven required.
Did I mention they are decadent?
No, for the down side.
First of all, you can pretty much feel these things settling right on your a@@. I mean it. These are not for calorie counters, don’t ask me how many points are in them because if you are counting points, you don’t want to come near these.
Second, while there are only three ingredients, the main thing is Oreos and I learned the hard way, this isn’t easy to do and not make a mess. Suffice it to say that on a good day, when I cook, I’m not neat about it. Ask me to grind up a bunch of Oreos, less the ones I eat first, and no matter how hard I tried, there were freaking black Oreo crumbs everywhere.
Whatever. It’s worth every last one of them.
One last thing. I called these Oreo Truffles because the recipe I Googled called them that. There are apparently several variations on the recipe. My co-worker called them a name that is much more accurate, but, ahem, refers to an illegal drug (think of what you see when a plumber bends over?) and since we’re runnin’ a family friendly blog here, I’m going with the Oreo Truffles. The other name is pretty darn accurate.
Don’t call me if you end up in Oreo rehab. I tried to warn you.
Okay, here’s the scoop:
This recipe for Oreo truffles calls for only three ingredients. Kids can help roll the balls and dip the candies, and they’ll like the familiar taste of Oreos in cookie form.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 bag Oreo cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 8 oz. dark chocolate, melted
Preparation:
1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil and spraying the foil with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Set aside 6 Oreo cookies, and finely crush the rest of the cookies in a blender or food processor.
3. If using a food processor, add the cream cheese in large chunks and pulse a few times to until the candy consistency is that of dough. If you don’t have a food processor, stir together the softened cream cheese and crumbs until the candy is well-mixed.
4.Place the candy in the refrigerator to firm up for about 1 hour.
5. Using a teaspoon or candy scoop, form 1-inch balls and roll between your hands until they are round. Place the candies on the prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate them while you prepare the dipping chocolate and cookie topping.
6. Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave until melted, stirring after every minute. Allow the chocolate to cool slightly, but do not let it harden.
7. Coarsely chop the reserved cookies, creating cookie chunks approximately 1/2” in size.
8. Dip the candy balls in the melted chocolate and place on the foil-lined baking sheet. While the chocolate is still wet, top each with a sliver of cookie. Repeat with remaining truffles, and refrigerate for 1 hour or until chocolate has hardened.
