Can I see some ID, please?

I thought I would post a quick update on Bella, so everyone can see how much she has grown.

First of all, she is doing wonderful. She has really bonded with us, mostly me,  since I am the one who spends the most time at home with her.

For the most part, she has calmed down enourmously, unless she gets in a ‘mood,’ in which case she races around the house like a maniac. The endless rainy days haven’t helped much, some days it’s been really hard to get her outside for very long, I know she’s looking for a way to burn off some of that puppy energy.

She’s doing great with commands for ‘be nice’ for her treats, ‘down,’ and I taught her ‘focus’ because when we were out walking, I needed a way to get her attention so she would not lunge at cars and get us both run over dead. She’s doing great with that command now, the next one I am working on is going to be something to the effect of, ‘don’t jump on people when they walk in the house you crazy silly pooch.’ The exact term is still to be determined.

We love her, though. I think she’s been a wonderful addition to our family. I love her spirit, her spunk, the fact that she makes me get up and move, the way that she sits at our feet when she’s calm and loves to have her tummy rubbed. Once the holidays are over, I’m actually going to set her up an obstacle course in the backyard. She’s already using the living room as one now, might as well set up the real thing.

All of this brings me to the name issue. My husband has really started to bond with her when he’s home, and he decided that my chosen name for her didn’t quite fit and maybe she needed a new name.

I’m fairly certain it’s too late, she knows her name, and that we might turn her into a multiple personality dog if we try and change it at this point, but I’ve been giving that some thought, just in case.

I wanted a guard dog. Check.

Female. Check.

Fast. Check.

Personality. Check.

Goofy. Check.

What name did I come up with? What moniker totally captures all of those features?

Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson

Of course!

For those of you who don’t know, I love, LOVE, The Closer, which airs on TNT with Kyra Sedgewick playing, duh, ksDeputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson. She is smart, sassy, a police chief, funny, and goofy. She is like the TV version of Bella. Or, well, Bella is the dog version of her? You know what I mean.

So, I tried it out today when I took her outside.

As you might guess, it’s a mouth full saying, ‘Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson,’ hurry up!

I even tried ‘Deputy Chief’ and ‘Brenda Lee,’ but I’m just not sure.

My next choice was ‘Flo Jo,’ after the famous Olympic runner, of course. I’m not sure how talented Flo Jo was at running at full speed with her head turned backwards, a weird thing Bella does that is sure to cause her to run into a mailbox any day. But, the dog loves to run and Flo Jo was the only female runner I could think of, besides Marion Jones, and that just wouldn’t be a good name to carry around, Marion, so I scratched that one.

My dad was here this weekend and is convinced that she knows Bella too well to change it.

We’ll see.

I don’t want to give her a complex with some weird name.

Cher? Madonna? Tina Turner?

Hmmmm…….

Deputy Chief? Flo Jo? Bella?

Deputy Chief? Flo Jo? Bella?

I like Brenda Lee. And It starts with a B, so maybe that will help with the transition?
